Dinosaurs at Bolton Museum

Although the local geology means there are no dinosaur fossils to be found in the Bolton area, many residents will still think of dinosaurs when they think of the museum.

This is down to the two cast specimens we own.

Tyrannosaurus rex

The Tyrannosaurus rex has always caught the imagination. This is hardly surprising considering the creatures fearsome reputation. Find out how Bolton came by its very own lizard king.

Tuojiangosaurus

This particular dinosaur is an imposing presence in the entrance gallery to the Museum. It was a plant-eater 7 metres long and weighed around three tonnes. It is a relative of the better-known Stegosaurus.
