Museum & Archive Policies
This section allows public access to key policy documents that govern the ethics and the forward planning for Bolton Museum and Archive Service. More documents will be added to cover other aspects of the service in time.
Interpretation Policy
This Interpretation Policy is a key policy document that will aid the
development of our strategic aims into a working programme. It is
intended to give structure and focus to our forward planning,
especially in defining and defending the continued use and development
of our collections.
Human Remains Policy
The purpose of this policy is to lay out professional standards concerning the collection, care, and use of human remains held as part of the Service’s collection. The vast majority of these human remains are part of the archaeology collection, particularly a small collection of ancient Egyptian mummies. These are used for interpretative display and academic research.
Acquisition & Disposal Policy
The Deaccession & Disposal policy applies to all museum objects in the care of Bolton Museum & Archive Service. The policy relates to the management of disposal (the transfer, sale or destruction of objects) and of deaccession (the formal approval and documenting of the disposal).
Archives Collecting Policy
The Archive and Local Studies Service will continue to collect all types of archives and local studies material without regard to format, language or date of production or publication, by purchase, donation and deposit provided that these fall within the stated areas of interest.
